Our social responsibility

Semantix’s corporate social responsibility policy has been developed in line with our mission, our business concept and our values. To ensure long-term success and achieve our mission, we have chosen to focus on the following areas.

Suppliers

Our suppliers are a vital part of our organisation. We create flexible working opportunities for many language service suppliers.

Employees

We endeavour to be a responsible employer. For us, this means creating a workplace that promotes diversity and treats all employees equally, as well as fostering professional development and encouraging employee participation.

Society

Our business aims to foster social integration and a multicultural society. We also strive to improve the quality of life of our end-customers by breaking down language barriers and enabling communication.

Environment

Our business does not involve any significant impact on the environment. However, the services we provide need to take account of sustainability issues and we endeavour to minimise our environmental impact.

Support project

Semantix is a platinum sponsor of Translators Without Borders. Through our sponsorship we provide financial support to the organisation. This goes hand in hand with the work we do every day – helping people to understand each other through translation. Hence why we want to support TWB’s work that uses translation improve people’s lives.

One reason that Semantix has chosen to support Translators Without Borders (TWB) – besides the fact that their core activities match ours – is how they work together with other aid organisations. By specialising in what they do best – translation – TWB contributes with meaningful, much-needed support, meaning that a large number of non-profit aid organisations can focus on their core activities – helping vulnerable people – and as a result, make a bigger difference.

One example of where TWB made a difference is their cooperation with the World Health Organization during the Ebola epidemic. At this time, healthcare information and other things were translated into 30 languages. The aim was to expose the false rumours in circulation about Ebola that hindered the aid organisations’ work.

During the on-going refugee crisis in Europe, TWB has collaborated with the UN refugee agency –UNHCR, Internews, IFRC, MercyCorps, DRC, Oxfam, Save the Children and many more, by providing them with translations around the clock into languages such as Arabic, Kurdish, Urdu, Dari, Pashto and Tigrinya.

The work of TWB focuses on areas such as crisis management, development, translator training and lobbying.

Translators Without Borders is a unique organisation that

  • supplies translations to non-profit organisations within areas such as crisis management, healthcare and education
  • increases capacity in its field by training new translators in languages where there is a deficit
  • increases awareness of why language is such an important factor of humanitarian work.
